Gratitude.
the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.
If there is anything that has gotten me through the various 'hurdles' that life had in store for me this year is gratitude, and always finding something to be thankful for in every situation.
Being grateful can change the outlook of whatever situation you're in from negative to positive and give you that little push to keep going forward. It can stop you from becoming stuck in a negative loop.
"People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems."
Gratitude honestly makes you happier! Set yourself a challenge tomorrow (or today if you're eager!) and see the difference. Whenever you complain, or feel the urge to complain about something, no matter how big or small it may be; find something to be grateful for and say it out loud instead. Speak positivity into existence. Watch how your life turns around. I can say from experience that this exercise instantly changes the 'direction' of where your day will go and how certain situations affect (or end up not affecting) your mood.
Share your gratitude for your loved ones with your loved ones. If you have a bed.. be grateful; if you are in good health.. be grateful; if you have job (regardless of what it is).. be grateful; if you have a passion.. be grateful; if you are able to love.. be grateful etc.
I was recently rejected for a program that I was dyingggg to be a part of, if I'm honest this rejection hit me very hard as this opportunity linked in to a very big dream of mine, and for a 'low' minute I did feel discouraged; I felt like a failure and to be super extra, like they didn't believe in me/my vision..
But this is where gratitude kicks in. Rather quickly I turned the situation around and started being grateful and speaking positive words into the picture. I was very grateful to even be in the position to find out about the programme at a previous event; I am grateful that doing my application gave me a kick start in starting a process that I had no idea or intention of doing anytime soon; I am grateful for my dream; I am grateful for my passion and I am grateful for my ambition.
I am grateful for how far I've come along;
I am grateful for being able to live in Central London;
I am grateful the opportunities that come my way;
I am grateful for the positive people that surround me daily;
I am grateful for being able to laugh and find things funny;
I am grateful for being able to hear, see, smell, taste & touch;
I am grateful for the hobbies I do that bring me so much joy;
I am grateful for the food I eat, the clothes I wear,
the excessive amounts of juice and smoothies that I drink...
(some people aren't even fortunate enough to have clean drinking water..)
Once you start listing and writing these down, you realise that the list could go on f o r e v e r, and suddenly you see your life in a different light. Next time you're feeling a little low, do try practising gratitude!
I'll stop rambling here for today, hope you enjoyed this post and my little outfit of the day on the side (ft me being silly attempting to do a high fashion editorial in ANTM sorta thing hahahahah)
